I am so grateful for the "idea" of the Library of America series and especially grateful for this volume. I absolutely adored "Sand County Almanac," and didn't really know much about it before reading. That's so fun, to dive into something one didn't know would be outstanding and to discover it. My two favorite bits of Leopold's writing are the second chapter in "Sand County Almanac" entitled February, which astonishes with its profundity, and a short piece of him musing on an Illinois bus ride about people's lack of appreciation for cottonwoods. Why, that could be me [50 years later]. I will never look at a cottonwood the same way again. I shall appreciate the humble cottonwood!<br /><br />This blog post of yours made me realize I have not yet read his "Land Ethic" essay. How exciting!
